Please note: Even if you are using YSF or D-Star, please register for a DMR ID at RadioID.net. Your DMR ID allows DMR users on the XLX097 Reflector to hear you. Without a registered DMR ID, you may not be able to communicate properly with users operating on DMR.

YSF Access

To access the XLX097 Reflector through a YSF repeater, press the Wires-X Button on your radio to connect to the repeater’s network capability. Once connected, you will see a list of available talk groups. Scroll to (00097) – XLX097 Reflector, or manually enter 00097 using your radio’s keypad.

DMR Access

We have removed access to the Wolf Den from BrandMeister at this time. You can still access the network via a DMR repeater if it supports the XLX Master setup through Talkgroup 6. As far as I know, only the Rehoboth 442.950 repeater currently supports this. It wouldn’t hurt to ask your local DMR repeater trustee if they would enable it.

D-STAR

To connect your ICOM D-STAR radio to the XLX097B Reflector on the New England Digital Radio network, you’ll need to follow a few steps. These steps involve configuring your radio properly, understanding how D-STAR repeaters and reflectors work, and using the proper commands. Here’s a general guide:

  1. D-STAR has three protocols: REF, XRF, and DCS, listed from oldest to newest. XLX is a reflector, not a protocol, which is why XLX is not included in that list. When connecting through a D-STAR Gateway, it is best to use DCS. To connect to the XLX097 Reflector, your URCALL will be DCS097.
  2. Know Your Call Sign and Registration: Make sure your D-STAR call sign is registered with the D-STAR Gateway System. If you are not already registered, you can register at REGIST.dstargateway.org. Without a registered call sign, you may not be able to access D-STAR networks.
  3. Identify the XLX097 = DCS097 Reflector: Determine the XLX097B = DCS097B reflector and module you want to connect to. XLX/DCS reflectors typically have several modules (A, B, C, etc.), with each module functioning as a separate conference room. Example: XLX097B = DCS097B, where 097 is the reflector number and B is the module.
  4. Set Up Your Radio: Set URCALL to the reflector and module you want to connect to. For example, use DCS097B to connect to Module B of reflector 097. Set RPT1 to the call sign of the local repeater or hotspot you are accessing, followed by a space and the appropriate module letter (for example, C). Set RPT2 to the call sign of the repeater or hotspot gateway, followed by a space and G. Set MYCALL to your registered call sign.
  5. .Use the Link Command: To connect to DCS097B, set URCALL to DCS097BL and briefly key your radio to send the link command. In DCS097BL, 097 is the reflector number, B is the module, and L means Link.
  6. Transmit: After setting the link command, briefly key your radio for about 1–2 seconds to send the command. Your radio or repeater should respond with a confirmation if the link is successful.
  7. Check the Connection: Once linked, set URCALL to CQCQCQ for normal operation. Your transmissions will now go through XLX097B and be heard by stations connected to that module.
  8. Unlinking: To disconnect from the reflector, set URCALL to seven spaces followed by U, with the U in the 8th position. Briefly key your radio to send the unlink command.
  9. Additional Considerations: You can monitor reflector activity and connected stations using the links below. Also ensure your local repeater or hotspot is properly connected to the network and capable of linking to the XLX097B reflector.

If you want to connect to XLX097 Module B, use the following settings: URCALL: DCS097BL, RPT1: REPEATER C or HOTSPOT C, RPT2: REPEATER G or HOTSPOT G, and MYCALL: Your Call Sign. Briefly transmit to link, then change URCALL to CQCQCQ for normal communication. Your radio should now be connected to XLX097B on the New England Digital Radio Network.
